FAQ – I’m Struggling to Find Clients. What Advice Can You Give Me?

October 30, 2023

< back to blog home

I’ve been receiving a ton of messages on Instagram from many of you who are struggling to find clients. So, I thought it would be a great time to dive into this topic!

But here’s the deal – this topic is super timely, especially as we’re heading into the last few months of the year. You might be feeling like you haven’t met your goals or that you can’t seem to find those elusive clients. So, let’s talk about it. I’m here to offer some tough love, and encouragement!

The Frustration of Finding Clients

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty, I want you to remember I’ve been where you are right now. I know that one of the most significant hurdles in freelancing is finding clients. You’ve got your business all set up, logos, branding, social media, portfolio – check! But when it’s time to find clients, it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack.

You’re not alone in feeling this way. It’s a common challenge! You get pumped up about starting your business. You even dream of the life you want to build with it. But when it’s time to find those clients, things get complicated.

The Key to Success – Building Connections

Now, here’s what I’ve found to be the differentiating factor between those who successfully find clients and those who struggle. The big question I always ask is, “What are you doing every single day to build connections with people?” How are you letting new people know about your business who didn’t know about it yesterday? How many new conversations are you having?

Most of the time, those who genuinely struggle to find clients have one thing in common – they’re not doing something every single day. When you’re in the initial stages or trying to keep momentum, you need to give your business that initial push!

My Five Routes to Finding Clients

There are many ways you can connect with business owners and find clients, but my five favorites are…

  1. Your personal network
  2. Facebook groups
  3. Cold pitching
  4. Local networking
  5. Social Media

Each of these has its unique approach, and they are all covered in detail in my Road to 1K mini-course. So if you find yourself feeling like you are struggling to find clients, check out my course! This is the perfect time of year to focus on your business!

Active Marketing vs. Passive Marketing

There are two types of marketing – passive and active. Passive marketing is like hoping clients will flood to you just because you updated your Instagram once. But hope isn’t a strategy! Active marketing is what we’re doing today. It’s about actively doing something every single day to build connections, talk to potential clients, and bring new eyes to your business.

The 30-Day Challenge

Now let’s commit! I set aside 30 to 60 minutes every day for marketing. In my calendar, it is a non-negotiable appointment with myself. It’s important to make this a part of your routine. Commit to it! And remember, it might take 30 days before you start seeing results.

In a nutshell, finding clients can be one of the most significant challenges when you’re starting out. It will take work, consistency, and a daily commitment. Are you willing to commit to a 30-day challenge of putting in daily actions to find clients? If you are, shoot me a message on Instagram and let me know! I’d love to hear your progress over the 30 days. And remember, even if you don’t land a client, you’ll have grown and learned so much about yourself and your business. Don’t lose hope – commit, show up, and put in the work. You’ve got this!

The Bottom Line

So, if you’re struggling to find clients, here’s the bottom line: ask yourself if you’re showing up every day. Are you truly putting in the work? If you’ve been inconsistent, it’s time to have an honest conversation with yourself. Reflect on what you can do differently. It doesn’t mean blaming yourself. It’s about committing to change and showing up differently.
